The Story

SKYMAGIC was approached by Our Legacy Creations (OLC) to deliver a drone show at the Burj Khalifa, forming a key aerial chapter within their New Year’s Eve spectacle.

From the outset, the brief wasn’t to create a standalone moment in the sky, but to become part of an exceptionally layered live production. The show brought together tightrope walkers, dancers, jet skiers, giant puppets, pyrotechnics and full-height screen content across the Burj itself. Our role was to ensure the drones felt like a natural extension of that world — another performer in the cast, another element of the set — rather than an isolated spectacle competing for attention. That philosophy shaped every creative decision: how the drones moved, where they appeared, and when restraint was more powerful.

We deployed 500 drones, including a number of pyrotechnic drones, allowing us to punctuate the aerial choreography with moments of fire and light that heightened key moments in the score and visual narrative. For the Burj show, designing the flightbox was an extensive process involving detailed site analysis, coordination around road closures and pedestrian flow, and careful integration with other show elements. Every metre of airspace was considered. The result was a flight environment that allowed the drones to feel visually close and emotionally connected to the action, while maintaining the highest operational standards.
