SKYMAGIC were commissioned by UNBOXED 2022 to deliver a unique drone light show to celebrate the awakening of SEE MONSTER in Weston-super Mare. 400 of our drone fleet flew above audiences of 70,000 people over three nights, telling the incredible story of the monster’s voyage across the North Sea toward its new home.
The one-of-a-kind show encompassed the key themes of SEE MONSTER; reuse, renewable energy, and the great British weather. The performance was augmented with a beautiful musical score, designed by OnTheSly Productions. The unique audio piece featured the local voices of Weston, working with Sound Artist, Joseph Harris.
Lighting design by James Bawn and Oliver Suckling on the SEE MONSTER structure allowed the physical platform itself to play an integral role within the show. Working in harmony with the drones, the balance between striking colours on the monster and light displays provided visual spectacles that joined land and sky. The show left a meaningful legacy for the launch of SEE MONSTER, commencing a program of events as part of the installation’s Awakening.
